Activation rate measures the share of signups that reach a defined value moment. Learn how activation drives retention in a KPI tree.
Activation Rate is the percentage of new signups who complete a defined 'aha moment' action within a set window (e.g. invite a teammate, send 5 messages, complete onboarding). In a product KPI tree, activation is the conversion step between signup and retained user: Retained Users = Signups × Activation Rate × Retention Rate. Activation is consistently the highest-leverage step in early-stage funnels because every downstream metric inherits its lift.
